New Milford, NJ - Chiropractors are the leading drug-free health care professional in the world. With the recent focus placed on performance enhancing drugs and sports, chiropractors have a great opportunity to become leaders in the push towards the advancement of drug-free athletics.

Dr. Vic Naumov, DC, a New Jersey Chiropractor, Founder and President of the non-profit charity organization, the National Coalition for the Advancement of Drug-Free Athletics, Inc. (NCADFA), has launched an anti-drug crusade aimed at municipalities, middle schools, high schools and sports organizations across the U.S. His message is direct and simple, "First, address the growing problem of performance enhancing drug use among student-athletes then, begin teaching them strategies that will enable them to safely and effectively improve their athletic performance, naturally."

It's been all over the media the past year and it doesn't seem to be going away any time soon. The topic of anabolic steroids and athletes has hit the main stream and has finally stepped out of the locker-room and into the living rooms around the country. "Anabolic Steroids" are fast becoming household words, if they haven't already.

According to the NIDA, over one million teens have admitted to using anabolic steroids with the intent to improvement their athletic ability, physical appearance and self-image, states Dr. Naumov, who is recognized as the nation's leading advocate for the advancement of drug-free athletes.

As the creator of the NCADFA's Choose NOT to Use(R) Campaign, Dr. Naumov has recently appeared on dozens of nationally aired sports/talk radio and television programs to get out his message about the use of performance enhancing drugs by young athletes and uses every opportunity to explain the role of chiropractic in helping solve the problem.

"The most under utilized and overlooked, natural performance enhancing tool available to any athlete, at any age, is the chiropractic adjustment," he explained at a recent seminar. "Only chiropractors are trained to identify and correct interference in an athlete's nervous system, for that simple reason chiropractors are the leaders in the field of natural performance enhancement. It's important that you understand, for an athlete to perform at their absolute best, their nervous system has to be as clear as possible. Only regular chiropractic care ensures the body consistently is able to perform at its peak in all areas. This not only includes physically, but mentally and chemically as well. Remember athletic skills such as, balance, hand-eye coordination, body position sense and reflexive reaction time are all neurological acts which require a good nerve supply to be performed at 100 percent," says Naumov.

During each seminar Dr. Naumov emphasizes that, "Chiropractors are more than alternative health care providers, more than just neck and back pain doctors - they are human performance specialists. Both athletes and the public need to know that. Only Chiropractors help the body work at its peak potential, at its absolute best. Nobody else can provide this unique service.

Dr. Naumov founded the NCADFA with the purpose of positioning chiropractors in a national leadership role with the hopes to recruiting other DCs into the effort of teaching athletes about chiropractic's role regarding natural performance enhancement. "It's about time the public recognized us for our uniqueness and we stop trying so hard to be accepted by other groups," he tells other DCs. "It's the public that will pay us what we're worth, not the insurance companies. "Our efforts and resources are better allocated helping athletes understand the value of the unique service only we are capable of providing. To become a leader, you must first see yourself as one. I see every chiropractor on this planet as a potential leader. We can help athletes of all ages maximize their innate potential, naturally."

Doctors interested in learning more about the work of, or joining the NCADFA, can visit www.NCADFA.org or www.ChooseNotToUse.org or call Dr. Vic Naumov at 201-265-8688.

Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signed a California state budget on Friday that was nearly 2 months overdue. Video news coverage of the event appearing on Google owned YouTube has been embedded to the Google News homepage, allowing visitors to Google News to view video coverage without leaving the news page.

This is the first example I have seen of news coverage in the form of video appearing along with aggregated news results. I reported last week on the first comments I began seeing appearing in Google News (Comments Appear in Google News) but I had not yet witnessed any video coverage, until today.

Google News embedding video

As you can see in this screenshot, the video link takes 2nd position after the article headline, with the top story being provided by the San Diego Union Tribune. The video is coming from KCRA TV, which are the call letters for KCRA Sacramento. The television stations YouTube profile can be viewed here... user=kcratv

watching YouTube video in Google News

Clicking on the + or the headline that reads "Video: Schwarzenegger Signs Budget, Trims Spending" launches YouTubes flash based video player, which streams video directly in the browser screen. The embedded player functions similar to the way it does on other web sites including embedded video. Visitors on the news page can play and pause video, turn volume up or down, click through to YouTube (opens in a new window), and close the player, without having to leave the Google News homepage.

This is one more example of Google's Universal Search feature in action. This is a win-win for Google. Users get to view video within the page, potentially keeping the viewer on the Google News homepage longer. If a viewer decides to click through to YouTube, they'll be directed there inside a new browser tab or window, and will find themselves on another Google owned property. Add to that Google's introduction of 10 second advertising in YouTube videos and you've got one more avenue for Google to display video overlay ads. Google's video sharing site, YouTube, has been more popular than ever, and the company is looking to profit from that. Online advertising, thanks to platforms like AdWords, has been at the center of Google's massive success. Google has announced they will begin testing a new advertising platform, using videos appearing on YouTube, to carry advertiser content.

According to quantcast reports, YouTube, ranks among the top 20 web sites (currently #14) in the United States, with an estimated 32 million+ unique visitors using the web site every month. Traffic has been on the rise all year and the timing may just be ripe for Google to introduce a successful advertising effort in video.

Google believes the ad formula they've set up, is unobtrusive, and will allow users of the popular web site to choose what they want to view. According to news reports, Google advertiser video ads will display after about 15 seconds into a YouTube video. The ad will appear on the bottom fifth of the screen, similar to what has become common in television broadcasting. After about 10 seconds, if the user takes no action, the ad will fade out. However, if the user chooses to click on the advertising, a video for the selected product or service will display.

It will be interesting to see which companies begin using the online video marketing opportunities made available at YouTube first. According to the quantcast statistics (see link above) YouTube's largest audience is male, age 18 to 24, with a household income of less than $30,000 a year. Statistics show a greater affinity towards African-Americans and Asian males, with some college, or no college education. Key clothing companies in this market space include Nike, The Men's Warehouse, and Vans footwear, according to stat reports.

Companies geared towards marketing to a youthful male audience are likely candidates for big ad spends on YouTube. Anything featuring girls, stunts, people getting hurt, and crazy animal videos, tend to be popular amongst this crowd, as shown by the number of video views and votes received. Soft drink companies and products like Mountain Dew, Monster Energy Drink, and Full Throttle may be a good fit for these types of videos.

As far as other business markets are concerned, it's early to tell how advertising on YouTube will affect niche markets, such as industries like chiropractic. While the making of social networking shared videos (or trying to duplicate what was seen in a video), may result in many young Americans making a visit to the chiropractor, we may not see any small business video advertising appearing soon.

But there is no denying the popularity of video online as it's growing at a radical pace. It's showing opportunity for everyone from major corporations down to individual business owners, and at home bloggers. As an example of what's happening in some niche business markets, a chiropractic YouTube video uploaded only a week ago, has been viewed over 300 times, without any promotion. That's nothing in comparison to views received for videos of girls wrestling or snakes regurgitating farm animals, but it shows there's an interest in the space.

On the small business level, this video featuring a demonstration of chiropractic adjusting (as low quality as it may appear), is resulting in new clients for this happy Los Angeles chiropractor.

RSS Readers can view the video here: Chiropractic Adjustment

One new client living in New York City, came after watching the video. They were visiting Los Angeles and made a point to stop by the chiropractic office, after landing at LAX international Airport. While big corporate advertisers will get the front page news stories when it comes to the new YouTube advertising format, profits from small businesses entering the video market are beginning to percolate, bringing more attention to marketing small businesses on a local, and sometimes even national level. The term wellness is becoming common and being used by many holistic care groups to describe the type of care they are offering. In an effort to better understand its definition, I looked it up in various dictionaries. Merriam Webster defines wellness as “the quality or state of being in good health especially as an actively sought goal.” From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia I read, “Wellness is generally used to mean a healthy balance of the mind-body and spirit that results in an overall feeling of well-being… In other words, wellness is a view of health that emphasizes the state of the entire being and its ongoing development.”

The International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) recently sent out a survey to its members asking for the reasons why parents bring their children in for chiropractic care. The number one reason reported was “wellness”. Parents are recognizing the importance of chiropractic care and the significant role it plays in the family wellness lifestyle.

Kids Get ChiropracticLet’s look more closely how your doctor of chiropractic contributes to your family wellness. Back to basic chiropractic science, the adjustment reduces nerve system stress and allows the body to function in a greater state of health. As the nerve system regains proper function, all systems of the body are improved. This is because the nervous system is the master control system of the entire body. It orchestrates and regulates all other body systems. There is no question that health in the body is dependant on a healthy nerve system function.

Additionally, doctors of chiropractic offer their patients lifestyle options that contribute to their well-being. Improved posture, suggestions for body movement and exercise significantly contribute towards our overall health by their affect on nerve system function. Awareness of chemical toxicities and their effect on the nerve system are another way that doctors of chiropractic guide their patients to a healthier lifestyle. Chiropractors have always offered these suggestions to their patients, even before other professions saw the importance of these factors in health. These physical components are vital components for healthy nerve system function and therefore well-being.

We also know that when our nervous system is healthier our minds function more efficiently as well. In chiropractic, our specific work with the nerve system has a significant effect on our ability to affect the way we think and behave. An overloaded, ill functioning nerve system cannot handle additional physical or emotional stress overload. The ICPA has frequently posted articles and testimonials supporting the positive effect the chiropractic adjustment has on people’s thoughts and feelings. I can recall one case where, a young boy diagnosed with ADHD says this to his mother about the adjustment, “it takes the noise out of my head”. How profound is his statement in realizing the direct correlation between nerve system function and the ability to think and feel clearly.

So too, our feelings and attitudes have a direct correlation to our nervous system. Current science is demonstrating the direct relationship between our thoughts and feelings and our nerve system function. In other words feelings of despair and hopelessness create a stress overload to our nervous system and once again, an overloaded nerve system creates malfunction in our bodies.

What chiropractic offers is the physical adjustment to reduce nerve system stress and a complimentary philosophy to support nerve system function as well. In this way it is uniquely affecting nerve system function from two perspectives and therefore offering a deeper level of health and wellness.

The chiropractic philosophy of health is: recognition, respect and trust in the body’s innate purpose to heal and be well. Understanding this empowering view of health is a huge benefit to reducing nerve system stress as feelings of despair and fear about healing are replaced with hope and confidence. Current scientific studies are showing us that those two feelings are essential for true and lasting healing and wellness.

Chiropractic care is pioneering the wellness movement because of its unique ability to enhance nerve system function on both of these levels. Whether you're an investor, a local business owner, or both, this article on yellow page directories will help you to better understand who's engaging the consumer, and who's left their online phonebook on a virtual doorstep, still waiting for it to be picked up.

In a growing market of user generated Web 2.0 web sites, don't let the idea of a stale "phonebook" directory fool you. Three of the five of these online directories are currently ranked among the hottest properties on the Internet.

While there's hundreds of yellowpages style online directories, and thousands more targeting niche markets, I focused specifically on the top five in the industry. I incorporated 4 methods to come up with the results I did, and I also included some valuable keyword research, which I'll share below.

The four methods of measurement I used include: Web Site Rank (compared to all ranked web sites in the US), Estimated Monthly Uniques (how many people in the US are visiting the web site), Stickiness (what percentage of visitors are repeat customers), and PageRank (aka PR). PR is basically a zero to 10 scoring system (the higher the number, the better) developed at Stanford University by Larry Page and used by Google to measure the relative importance of a particular web page. The final method (which I did not include in measurement) was website position when searching the term: yellow pages.

For the first three methods, I used quantcast, a third-party site traffic measurement tool which is publicly available for use. I chose quantcast for their accuracy, simplicity in their style, and clean graphics layout. I determined PageRank using the Google Toolbar on my Firefox browser.

ATT YeloowPages QuantCast Stats July 2007In the order of most popular directory first, let's take a look at the top five online Yellow Pages directories, and the measurements I have gathered for each web site. I'm showing a screenshot for quantcast stats on yellowpages.com, so you can get a visual idea as to what we are talking about. The screenshot here shows traffic for AT&T's yellow pages web site has been on a steady rise from February of 2007 to July of 2007.

The big yellow guerrilla, with an estimated 14 million unique visitors in the month of July 2007, is AT&T owned YellowPages.com. AT&T has a huge advantage over all of the other dot-coms in the space simply due to direct type in traffic, people typing the words "yellow pages" into the URL bar on their browser. Try it out, type the phrase into your browser bar without using http, www, or .com and then hit go or enter. In the US you will likely be directed to AT&T's yellowpages.com web site.

Besides direct type in traffic, it appears that brand loyalty and trust are an important factor behind the success of these web sites. I've seen television and print ad commercials for the four most popular directory dot-coms. Statistics for AT&T and DEX suggest that 49% of visitors are regular users, and both superpages and yellowbook are measuring at 45% for return visitors. It appears to me that the big players are building brand loyalty, and consumers for the most part are happy enough with the results, that they continue to use services that these web sites offer. One is also likely get a feeling of trust visiting one of these four main web sites, since they are all brand recognizable.

An interesting and valuable statistic to note regarding all of the top five web sites is that each receives slightly more traffic from a female audience, according to the reports on quantcast. That may just be the case for all online directories.

Google Universal Search Results
According to Google search results, YellowPages.com is recognized as the authority site in the industry. It has the coveted top position in Google search, which includes display of multiple portions of the web site appearing in search results. That's also the secret behind why entering of the term "yellow pages" in the browser bar results in loading of the AT&T owned web site.

yellowpages screenshot Google results August 18

Included in the yellowpages.com results are links for two of the largest metros in the United States. Those being New York and Los Angeles.

Superpages.com (owned by Idearc Media Corp.) holds position number two in search results. Notice Google does not display as much information (see screenshot) for superpages.com and yellow.com, as they do for the authority site.

But look at that, Yellow.com (owned by Marchex, Inc.) is number three when it comes to a straight search. Yellow.com gets my vote for hardest at working to rank well, despite lacking the traffic and branding the others command. It's my observation that Yellow.com pulls lot's of new traffic from search results for "yellow pages" whereas YellowPages and YellowBook likely get more direct type in traffic. While the rank, traffic, and stickiness for Yellow.com are far less than their nearest competitor, I can't recall ever seeing any sort of print or television advertising for this web site. Notice that Yellow.com drops off in stickiness significantly when compared to the other four. I suspect this is likely due to a combination of weaker brand status and possibly level of trustability. While the web site may provide great directory services, it does appear rather generic to me. I'd suggest adding a trustworthy human image to the homepage. From a search engine optimization (SEO) perspective, Yellow.com is doing a spectacular job of holding themselves inside the top 10 of Google's natural search results. They are also a top sponsored Link advertiser which puts their URL at the top of Google organic search results, in the sponsored Link category.

We're not addressing these directories but I mention them to round out the top 10. Yahoo Yellow Pages is #4, AOL Yellow Pages is #5, MSN Yellow Pages is #6, and Switchboard.com is #7. Interesting pattern and probably a future topic.

Yellowbook.com holds position number eight, which isn't to impressive, being that they have the traffic of 5.7 million visitors per month. To pull traffic for a "yellow pages" search, what yellowbook.com needs, is an inbound link campaign.

A directory called theYellowPages.com comes in at position number nine.

Notice that DEX does not crack the top 10 on Google for a Yellow Pages search. As a result, they likely rely heavily on purchased contextual ads, running along the Google sponsored links sidebar. An interesting observation I noticed regarding DEX is that they recently redirected their website from dexonline.com to dexknows.com. It's my opinion that DEX is going to require a serious branding effort to get this new website anywhere near the numbers of the two biggest competitors in the space. The web site currently has a PR rank of 0, which indicates no PR has been passed since the web site was redirected. It may take months for the change to appear on the dexknows homepage. While we're at it, DEX is the only of the five not to display a clean URL. A visit to the dexknows homepage currently brings up a "displayhome.ds" page instead of a "/" which could potentially affect search engine rankings.

One factor I believe is resulting in AT&T's yellowpages.com holding dominance over the others is direct type in traffic and keyword relevance. The screenshot above is from research I did on Wordtracker.com, a keyword tracking web site. I did keyword research on the term "yellow" and you can see in the screenshot that the resulting term "yellow pages" is even more popular. The term "yellow book" gets significant search traffic as well, but it drops off considerably when compared to the yellow pages key phrase.

Doing a Google search for yellow book displays the branded directory in the top position, but yellowpages.com is right behind them, flexing those big yellow muscles of directory dominance.

I believe the information presented here is important to investors, it's important to the folks working at and marketing these directories, and it's critically important to those considering advertising with any of them. Professions like Chiropractic, Dentistry, & Law, tend to do a fair amount of yellow page directory advertising. This article provides good research and can be helpful in making educated decisions as to which directories hold the most value.

I plan to discuss yellow page directories as well as many niche online directories in greater detail. You are welcome to subcribe to the planetc1 RSS Feeds, as that's where you will likely see updates on these topics.

Google News began a new feature earlier this month that allows people and organizations mentioned in news articles to post comments about the news they were mentioned in. Google posted a "heads-up" on this new, experimental feature, on their Google News blog page, on August 7th.

I first learned about this new feature in a web developers user forum on WebmasterWorld, a very popular and niche user generated content website, owned by Brett Tabke. There was a significant thread of discussion on the webmaster website whether this latest move by Google News was going to be good or bad for publishers. As the owner of an online publishing web site, I was not quite sure whether this new feature would have any effect in relationship to visits, for a site like Planet Chiropractic.

Danny Sullivan, of Search Engine Land, posted a detailed article (Google News To Newsmakers: Send Us Your Comments) on August 8th, regarding the new Google News feature. Danny is a leader in the industry of search and his article goes into great detail about these new experimental features. He posted a couple of screenshots of Google News articles related to the topic "McDonalds", and until today those were the only versions of comments that I've noticed so far in Google News.

Google News comments - FDA warnings on cold medicines

This afternoon I was scanning the Google News homepage when I noticed a block of articles related to FDA warnings against parents giving cough and cold medicines to toddlers. Below an aggregated article, posted on the web site "Medical News Today," was a comment by a medical doctor named Joshua M. Sharfstein. Dr. Sharfstein is the Commissioner of Health, in the city of Baltimore, Maryland. He was quoted in one of the news articles.

The Commissioner's comment suggested that it was encouraging that the Food and Drug Administration was addressing the topic of marketing cough and cold medications for children. In his comments he mentioned that while cough and cold products are marketed aggressively to parents, they have not been shown to be effective and have been linked to serious injuries and even deaths.

Now that I've been able to see this Google News experiment in action, I can now make a better opinion about it. I was impressed by the comments I read from Baltimore's Commissioner of Health, and I felt it lent greater credibility to the topic. As a daily reader of Google's homepage news articles, I like that. On the main news page, it does appear that the comment scrolls a bit outside the normal page layout, but that's a minor design issue that can be taken care of easily. I really liked the way Google news displays the comment on a single page along with links to related articles above the comment. It's early to tell, but I suspect this may lead to greater traffic for news articles that receive relevant comments, especially since there is a "link to this comment" link at the bottom of the content.

A self proclaimed mad scientist and disruptive technologist is doing a hell of a job disrupting massive amounts of previously thought anonymous entries on Wikipedia, the anybody can edit online encyclopedia. We covered news on the WikiScanner yesterday, and the past 24 hours has brought forward a firestorm of information on hundreds of previously unconnected, juicy page edits.

Virgil Griffith WikiScanner - photo credit Jake AppelbaumWhy, you may ask, would this graduate student from Caltech throw a virtual can opener into what was thought by thousands to be a safely sealed can of worms, resulting in what may equate as massive egg on your face findings regarding corporations and organizations, when it comes to page edit histories on Wikipedia? You could say that Virgil has an appetite for disruption, a really mad, mad scientist kind of appetite.

Actually, it's a bit simpler than that. What this young scientific graduate student wants, is pretty much what millions of others want. In all his disruptiveness, Virgil wants a link to his homepage.

Call him mad, call him disruptive, but Virgil is on a quest to be #1 in Google search for the query "virgil", and this code hungry chiropractor is betting he'll get there soon.

Besides being number one for the Virgil query on Google, Griffith says he created the wiki scanner to create minor public-relations disasters for companies and organizations he dislikes. He was also curious to see what "interesting organizations", which he claims to be neutral towards, are up to in regards to wikipedia page edits. When it comes to security vulnerabilities, he also has a thirst for massive scale events and indexing of the information.

Maybe you've read the article from yesterday, or perhaps you've read about Virgil or the WikiScanner in other news reports. People are asking if we "really" know that these previously thought anonymous page edits came from executives or their lackeys. On Virgil's scanner FAQ page he states that "Technically, we don't know if it came from an agent of that company. However, we do know that edit came from someone with access to their network. If the edit occurred during working hours, then we can reasonably assume that the person is either an agent of that company or a guest that was allowed access to their network."

Lists of blatant misinformation being injected into Wikipedia pages are rapidly beginning to appear online, since news of Virgil's scanner broke just yesterday. He is staying away from that, but Wired Reddit has already set up a page that is as hot as an inferno.

Virgil is not saying that Wikipedia is evil. In fact, he suggests that Wikipedians are good people that don't mind the light of day. Virgil feels that Wikipedia appears to work fine for non-controversial topics. For topics that border on the controversial, he feels the exposure of disinformation (via tools like the WikiScanner) on Wikipedia can help to make the online encyclopedia more reliable.

While this graduate student studies theoretical neurobiology and artificial life, in Southern California, many will be seeking out just who the bastard was that edited the Harry Potter page with an end of book spoiler, shortly after the release of "Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince." We all have Virgil Griffith to thank for getting us closer to that answer.

While millions of people around the globe have received chiropractic care and know the value of subluxation correction from personal experience, there is often dismissal of patient testimonials and growing popularity of chiropractic as anecdotal evidence. During the past ten years JVSR has become a leading research journal in the field of chiropractic.

The Journal of Vertebral Subluxation Research (JVSR) is funded by subscriptions from doctors of chiropractic, chiropractic educational systems, and financial support from select vendors of chiropractic products and services.

Recently released articles appearing on the journal website include A Slip on the Sidewalk, Unity Through Tolerance, Neither Effective or Scientifically Plausible, The Vitality-Wellness Construct, and The Mental Impulse.

Some recent journal articles (for members) include: Six-Minute Acclimated Thermal Scans and Health Perception, Yoga as a Complement to Chiropractic Care, Integrative Treatment Using Chiropractic and Conventional Techniques for Adolescent Idiopathic Scoliosis, and Subluxation and Human Evolution: A Philosophical Model of Subluxation.

Planet Chiropractic congratulates JVSR on their 10 years of peer-reviewed research content. For more information or to subscribe to JVSR use the website links above or contact them by (snail) mail at:

Caltech graduate student creates WikiScanner which apparently exposes previously thought anonymous Wikipedia entries created by corporations and organizations.

wikipediaAccording to information on the Wikipedia about us page, the website is described as is a multilingual, web-based, free content encyclopedia project, that is written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world. The about page states that with rare exceptions, articles on wikipedia can be edited by anyone with access to the Internet, simply by clicking on a "edit this page" link. Some visitors to Wikipedia create user accounts in which they do their editing, and others edit pages anonymously, resulting in display of the user's IP address.

Since nearly all Wikipedia pages can be edited by anyone, there is great potential for individuals, corporations and organizations to manipulate content, run reputation management campaigns, and whitewash data, much of which can appear to be done anonymously.

Enter the WikiScanner created by self-proclaimed "Mad Scientist. Disruptive Technologist." Virgil Griffith. The Tool, known as Wikipedia Scanner, is the brainchild of the young Caltech graduate student. Virgil has built a search tool that traces the IP (Internet protocol) addresses of those who are making Wikipedia changes.

Disruptive indeed! The tool he has created offers users a searchable database which can connect millions of anonymous Wikipedia edits to organizations where the edits apparently originated, by cross-referencing the edits against pools of data on who owns the associated blocks of Internet IP addresses.

Virgil's wiki scanner page was down when I checked it, probably due to massive amounts of traffic coming in from people reading about this and similar stories.

As of today, the wiki scanner allows you to search by an organization's name and or location, followed by clicking on a button that reads "reveal my potential victims!" For example, one can input the name "National Institute of Health," "Wal-Mart" or "Pfizer" and get results that apparently come from locations where those organizations have registered IP addresses.

There is already a growing list of user submitted organizations which so far includes organizations such as DaimlerChrysler, Apple, IBM, the US House of Representatives, and Hewlett-Packard. Along the right side of the wiki scanner web page, are a number of "editor's picks" which include US government offices, the Democratic Party and Republican Party, corporations such as Amgen and Diebold, news organizations such as Fox News Channel and the New York Times, and even miscellaneous locations such as the Vatican.

One can also do a search by blocks of IP addresses known as an IP range. That's not going to be as easy as entering a corporate or organizational name for the average user, but it allows one to dig deeper and potentially target geographical areas based on IP ranges. I would imagine one could look at IP blocks for entire cities and see what sort of anonymous wikipedia edits are coming out of those areas. It will be a mess at first but someone will likely figure out how to better organize the data.

You can also search specifically choosing a wikipedia page entry but that may take a bit of time. I went to use the tool and that feature is currently disabled, at least until traffic on the web site decreases. While this method may be the most time-consuming, it will likely be the fastest way to find out which organizations are potentially editing wikipedia terms you may be interested in.

This tool and Virgil Griffith are certainly going to get a lot of attention over the next week! ";s:6:"author";s:17:"planetc1.com-news";s:7:"pubdate";s:29:"Tue, 14 Aug 2007 10:10:00 GMT";s:7:"summary";s:4017:"by Michael Dorausch, DC

Big Vaccine (son of Big Pharma) has been busy in Sacramento helping lawmakers come up with a scheme to do away with the annoying problem of public opposition to new vaccine mandates. After all, if it weren't for pesky parental opposition during legislative review, the controversial HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccine for young girls would already be on the long list of "mandatory" vaccines for California school children.

And controversial it is. As reported in the Miami Herald, in each state that has considered mandating the HPV vaccine, the debate has involved "some of the nation's most politically charged issues." These include teenage sex, parental control, state mandates and a "backlash against vaccines and a suspicion of drug companies."

The ingenious solution devised by vaccine enthusiasts to guarantee victory in Sacramento every time from here on out is to simply change the rules. The time-honored tradition in California of giving parents a chance to ask tough questions during the legislative review process for new vaccines may soon be overthrown.

In the future, look for rubber-stamp approval of all federally recommended vaccines without debate. In place of elected representatives getting a chance to vote thumbs up or thumbs down, a single un-elected bureaucrat at the top of the state"s medical hierarchy will simply nod yes.

Should we be surprised to learn that the new system would add the HPV vaccine to the mandated list automatically, contrary to public sentiment?

Assembly Bill 16 is working its way through the California legislature and has already been approved by the Assembly. If signed into law, beginning in July 2008 every vaccine ever decreed by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) will automatically become mandatory for California school kids.

The author of the bill, Assemblyman Ed Hernandez of West Covina, says his bill will "leave the decision as to how and when to implement a vaccine to the public health professionals best qualified to make that determination."

Hernandez's bill would force us to place blind faith in the experts, shove parental rights off the cliff, and allow our medical freedom to be dashed against the jagged rocks of medical authority below.

Ah, but doesn't the new law call for an opt-out clause that will protect parents' medical freedom to exempt their child from vaccines for medical, religious and philosophical reasons? The new bill may allow parents to opt out, but as Karen England, executive director of the Capitol Resource Institute has pointed out, "An opt-out provision is simply the government telling me that they have taken away my parental rights and in order to regain them I must file an affidavit with the school."

Why not make it an opt-in program for vaccines instead, such as the system in New Hampshire? Rather than making parents jump through hoops to exempt their child from government mandates, the state government ought to present solid evidence to convince parents why each vaccine is a good idea.

My vote for the Grand Poobah of Vaccine Enthusiasm must go to Paul Offit, M.D., vaccine patent holder, consultant to the Merck drug company (maker of the HPV vaccine Gardasil), and one of fifteen policy makers on the CDC's Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices.

"Paul Offit is calling for an end to exemptions to vaccination unless approved by a medical doctor or government health official. He argues that the unvaccinated place themselves and others at risk for catching and transmitting infectious diseases and, therefore, government should force citizens to purchase and use vaccines without exception," writes National Vaccine Information Center director Barbara Loe Fisher.

Dr. Offit apparently finds it incomprehensible that catching and transmitting infectious disease is a scientifically valid strategy for developing a naturally robust immune system. As to whether the unvaccinated pose a risk to vaccinated people, if vaccines work as well as he claims, what risk is he referring to?

Offit shares his worries, "Given the increasing number of states allowing philosophical exemptions to vaccines, at some point we will be forced to decide whether it is our inalienable right to catch and transmit potentially fatal infections."

In response to his quandary I must answer an emphatic yes, Americans do have an inalienable right to catch and transmit potentially fatal infections (even though most will be benign) just as we have an inalienable right to refuse potentially fatal injections, vaccine or otherwise, for whatever reason suits us. I am sorry if medical freedom makes you nervous and interferes with your plans to vaccinate everyone with whatever you want Dr. Offit, but you are just going to have to cope.

It is true that vaccines can provoke temporary immune responses that result in circulating antibodies. But here is what is puzzling, this is considered proof of a vaccine's effectiveness even though there is universal agreement that antibodies are not predictive of an appropriate immune response. Indeed, each year we see outbreaks of infection in fully vaccinated populations with high levels of circulating antibodies.

Our medical leaders seem to confuse vaccination with immunity. In order to clear this up, the first thing we need to do is clean up our language. Let us change the term "vaccine-preventable disease" to the more precise term, "vaccine-alterable disease," since no disease has yet been prevented by a vaccine.

Dr. Offit has stated, "And the notion of requiring vaccines for school entry, while it seems to tear at the very heart of a country founded on the basis of individual rights and freedoms, saves lives."

Can he point to a single study that has ever compared the death rates of vaccinated and unvaccinated children to support his claim that vaccines save lives? The good doctor cannot because no scientific evaluation comparing the health of the two groups has ever been made.

Isn't it amazing that mass vaccination, the front-line strategy of modern medicine, is based entirely on an assumption that has never been tested or proven? The fact that the majority of the medical community shares Offit's "belief" that vaccines save lives gives evidence of a widespread faith in vaccines, but does not confer scientific validation.

There are at least 300 vaccines in development, and our federal agencies have seemingly never met a vaccine they didn't like. If the rubber stamp system is enacted in California, this will no doubt influence adoption of similar laws in other states and the list of mandated shots will grow exponentially.

The only thing standing between the Big Vaccine druggernaut and its plans to inject every man, woman and child on a regular basis are two issues apparently viewed by our health leaders as trivial: scientific integrity and individual medical freedom.

What do Candace Michelle, Beyoncé, the X Games, and Van Halen have in common? Two are related to music, two are related to sports (if you consider WWE wrestling a sport), two are female, all are somewhat entertaining, and all have appeared recently in the news.

For this Sunday edition of Planet Chiropractic news I thought I'd take a few minutes to share the concept of popular search key phrases and how they can come together to create loads of traffic for your website. This is a great topic for those that are non-chiropractors as I am openly sharing some methods you can use on your blog or website. Remove "chiropractic" from the content here and you'll develop a better understanding of how this may work for you.

What we will do is look at something called "search logs" to view some of the most popular topics searched on the Planet Chiropractic web site during the past seven days. A word of caution, it's not recommended that you share the keyword search phrases that drive the most traffic to your website, unless of course you want your competition to begin using them. I'm sharing these terms because thanks to you and others we get loads of traffic. I'm confident that will continue and I think Sunday is a great day to give something back.

Candace Michelle GoDaddy Girl In no particular order here are the 10 most popular words or phrases for the past seven days. The terms Candace Michelle and Candace Michelle Playboy have both been popular drivers of website traffic. You may think neither of those have anything to do with chiropractic but they are related simply because Candace is married to West Los Angeles practicing chiropractor, Dr. Ken Gee Ehrlich. Candace first became popular with her commercial appearances as the GoDaddy Girl in the past three NFL Super Bowls. She's been gaining popularity in the wrestling world, and she's currently the reigning WWE Women's Champion. She gets lots of chiropractic care.

Another female entertainer that has been popular on the website these past seven days is Beyoncé. That came as a result of a chiropractic related article published by us and which appeared in the news from July 26th through most of last week. The content was more about the importance of seeing a chiropractor after taking a fall than it was specifically about Beyoncé, even though that was the single most important term driving visitors to the website. Beyoncé had taken a fall at concert in Orlando, Florida and there was lots of related news coverage, mostly around videos that were appearing online. The more specific terms that resulted in increased web site visitors were "beyonce falls at concert" and "beyonce concert fall."

The next three terms are related specifically to the industry of chiropractic so they may appear to be of no importance to those in other industries. If you seek to understand the principles I'm talking about you'll be able to duplicate the results in your market. Among the most popular terms was the keyword "planet chiropractic" which is the name of this online destination. The root URL for the same phrase also redirects to our homepage. We started using the shortened version "planetc1" several years ago because it was faster to type out. In retrospect, I don't recommend anyone making such changes to their web site URL.

The term chiropractic jobs was very popular this last week and that is likely because there are nearly 220 current classified ad listings for chiropractors and recent student graduates seeking employment. Do you see how this all begins to come together? Another popular term that falls into the same category is the phrase chiropractic salary which is a result of a number of topics being addressed on this website related to the income of chiropractors. We cover topics such as jobs and salaries in our classifieds, in featured articles, and in our salary blogs. In my case I'm a working chiropractor and I communicate with others in my field daily. As a result I have up-to-date specific and expert knowledge which becomes easy to talk about. It's also valuable and helpful to others. If you're in business I'd bet you could duplicate what we are doing here by just talking about the things you know best. You'd be helping others and you'll increase traffic to your website.

Terms like X Games have been popular in the month of August over the past six or seven years. Planet Chiropractic had news coverage related to X-Games 13, which was timely and informational. Even though we directed the majority of traffic to the ESPN homepage for specific event coverage, there was a significant increase in the number of visitors as a result of a handful of articles and blog posts that were made. Below is a screenshot (taken on August 2nd) from a Google News page showing placement of our news related to the events.

X games news coverage

If you're still reading this here's one that really gets out there. Searches for Van Halen 2007 Tour News resulted in a surge of traffic all of last week, and there was a number of increased visits for similar terms in the month of July. All of this new activity resulted from a single article that appeared in the news in February of this year. The article was related to rumors that Van Halen would be on tour in 2007 with David Lee Roth. I'm a huge Van Halen fan and as a result began an effort to organize groups of chiropractors throughout the United States to volunteer chiropractic care at concert tour venues. In our spirit of giving, we received.

The last phrase or keyword is fairly obvious and it doesn't fit well in this article since its specific to the category this site is often put into. The term is chiropractic and the only thing I can say is that if you liked this article, and it's provided you with some value, you consider giving us a chiropractic link.

That's it for the Sunday news, hope you learned something today about keywords, search traffic, and how apparently unrelated phrases and terms can relate in a big way towards attracting new visitors to your blog or website. The 2007 PGA championship has been a sizzling topic in this weeks news with Tiger Woods leading in this year's 89th annual major golf event, taking place in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The chiropractic professions love for Tiger Woods is no secret, especially since he made public appearances in support of chiropractic early in his career, riding on the 1995 Chiropractic Centennial float in the Pasadena tournament of roses parade. While golf and the PGA are leading sports related news topics this time of year, there are other hot summer sports involving chiropractic care for athletes. Tennis pros, Lleyton Hewitt and Roger Federer were in the news earlier this week with news from the Rogers Cup in Montréal.

The NFL Pro football season kicks off in the United States this month which promises to bring increased news coverage of professional football players receiving chiropractic care. While pro chiropractic and NFL superstars like Emmitt Smith of the Dallas Cowboys and Tiki Barber, all-time rushing and reception leader for the New York Giants, are retired, the 2007 NFL season will likely have new chiropractic advocates speaking praise for those who help keep them healthy for the incredible sport of pro football.

Besides pro sports like football, major-league baseball, PGA golf, ESPN's X Games, and professional tennis, there is a diverse world of summer sports enthusiasts receiving chiropractic care in order to naturally improve endurance and sports performance. Popular summer sports like volleyball, surfing, competitive rowing, running, cycling, competitive sailing, and BMX events like those seen in this months Los Angeles X Games, all involve athletes receiving chiropractic care on some level, whether it be for pain relief or natural enhancement of athletic performance.

It's probable that many professional athletes were introduced and began a regimen of chiropractic care for many of the same reasons the active general public does, with an initial visit resulting from some sort of musculoskeletal injury or biomechanics related complaint. However, in the field of professional athletics, and even many of those that may possibly be categorized as weekend warriors, chiropractic care has become far more utilized as a preventative, performance improving, method of natural health care, rather than a post injury drugless yet therapeutic approach to pain reduction. This is partly due to the athletic mentality that preparation and training are critical factors in one's overall performance.

Take John Stockton, the former NBA superstar of the Utah Jazz, considered to be one of the NBA's greatest point guards. His years of chiropractic care with team chiropractor Craig Buhler was geared towards improving and maximizing athletic performance by primarily optimizing function of the nervous system via Buhler's effective combination of muscle testing, chiropractic techniques, and nutritional guidance.

That's a different approach from what was reported in May of 2007 with former PGA tour winning golfing legend Bob Gilder. In Gilder's case it was reported that he sought out chiropractic care the morning he was about to drop out of a the Regions Charity Classic golf event as a result of back pain he had awoken with. Both approaches demonstrate the successful results brought about by chiropractors, where an initial visit may be focused on pain relief, and continued longer-term care plans are designed towards optimal athletic career performance.

Whether your sport be pushing your kids in a stroller while getting a 4 mile run in on a sunny pathway, or driving quarterbacks facedown into the earth's grass, there is likely a chiropractic program that will fit your lifestyle, providing you with a natural and drug-free approach geared towards maximizing your full human potential.
