The students have had two four-day weekends in a row. They are bouncing off the walls this week. We (the teachers) have all decided that there is such a thing as too much time off. They've completely gotten out of the routine. I have an odd feeling it's going to take the next several weeks to get them back in the routine. Read more...

That Something Else Better
I saw this thing from John T. Spencer consisting of the first two columns below, 'Management' and 'Leadership' respectively, and while I get that 'Leadership' is supposed to be something better and to be aspired to, it left me short. So I think there's a need to characterize another attitude, one that is neither 'Management' or 'Leadership', which gets to the core of a more ideal state. Read more...

PBL Program Shows How to Tap Local Expertise | Edutopia Fascinating overview of a PBL school. I would like to point out that now that I have a 20% time project where students spend 20% of their time in my class working on a technology-enriched project of their choice - that my students are doing many of these incredible things. Every school should have their students doing personal interest projects as a core requirement of what you do to graduate from that school. End of year portfolio websites should be something all students do on a platform that they can "take with them" after high school. This is all part of finding your passion. This is a great overview from Suzie... Read more...
