Power Business Meeting
So as most of you could probably guess, I LOVE the show So You Think You Can Dance. And last night's episode contained a jazz dance by Mandy Moore that she said was choreographed to be like "the ultimate power business meeting". One thing I find so interesting about dance is that a theme can be choreographed SO differently depending on who comes up with it. Our minds are so unique that there is no way we would all come up with the same routine, even if we all chose the same song.
Think about how you envision a "power business meeting"...when both people involved think they're right; trying to convince the other that they should change their mind. Is this dance similar to what you would come up with??... Read more...

Best Weekend Ever
Whew. Finally I can breathe...and sleep again. For any of you who have tried to carry on a normal conversation with me in the last couple of weeks, you know first-hand that it was impossible. My mind has been no where else except getting through our first dance team performance this past Friday.
This picture was taken (by Art) right before we walked out to dance...so right about now I felt like I would throw up. Still smilin' though!
It was amazing. They had us hidden for the first period of the game, and made a big announcement... Read more...

When Nice Turns Creepy
I don't consider myself a naive person. I think I'm pretty smart when it comes to common sense. And I can usually tell when someone is being "inappropriate". But I'll admit...I'm a bit stumped lately. And I'd like to know what my readers feel is "crossing the line" when it comes to meeting new people.
When I first started here at TCM I met with a very nice woman named Julie Peppenger, who was telling me the ins and outs of being a woman in business. I like to think that people are a lot more professional than they used to when it comes to business and networking, but I asked her the question anyway. "Do you ever get asked out on dates in business settings? If so, what do you do?" She laughed and said she, of course, doesn't mix business with her personal life, and that you can "just tell" when someone's not just asking for a business meeting. And that's been pretty true... until now.
There's an older... Read more...

Happy Feet
One of the things I've been continually pushing for here in Des Moines is innovation and creativity in our performing arts. I think it's awesome that we've started bringing in bigger-named performers, and are putting together more productions...but honestly...if I see The Nutcracker one more time, I just may flip out a little.
A big reason I love the show So You Think You Can Dance is because they bring excitement to the world of dance. They have unique shows and performers, and people stay interested. Why can't the Midwest bring in such creative performances? Just watch the clogger, Brandon Norris, below. Would you ever think clogging would be this cool?? Read more...

NOT on Thin Ice
Contrary to what you may have heard on the radio today, specifically WHO 1040, the Iowa Stars are apparently NOT moving to Austin...so don't return your season tickets! When I heard this morning from my mom that they were being moved to Texas, I was instantly nauseated. The first thought that came to mind was "Ugh, after all that time and practice!" And of course, I called my coach to freak out just a little. But after hearing from the people with The Stars, The Iowa Events Center, and reading the article posted by the Register, (quoting the Dallas Stars President), my stomach is at ease. We've been "guaranteed" at least three more years.
Now what angers me is the fact that a radio station would state something as... Read more...
